OUR COMMUNITY MOURNS THE SAD LOSS OF MICHAEL PIO TZOUVANNI

Our Maronite Community both here in the United Kingdom and Cyprus Maronite has been shaken by news of a fatal nightclub fire in far-away Thailand that has involved a much loved and respected member of our precious youth. Michael Tzouvanni, cherished son of Christopher (Fofi) and Maroulla, and brother of Elias, Solomon, Andy, Joseph, Franco and Charpelina, fell victim to these most tragic of circumstances in the early hours of Friday morning, when sadly he was unable to escape the flames in one of Phuket city’s most popular night-time tourist destinations. The news rapidly spread in both England and Cyprus following several national and international news announcements, leaving our community in mourning. Among these announcements was an emotional video from Michael’s older brother Joseph, who flew out to Thailand immediately after hearing the news, appealing to the Thai and international communities for help in finding Michael. This demonstrates the passion, love and unity that exists among the Tzouvanni family, and which they are known and loved for among their friends and family in North London and beyond.

Michael, just 24 years of age, was a young man of strong values and an extremely positive and happy approach to life. He was adored by his family, loved by his friends, close to his Maronite routes, passionate about his football, respectful and humble in his ways and yet strong in his principles. He was an exemplary young man just beginning to establish himself in life, having just embarked on a career in property following his University success, before his hopes and dreams were cut short by the tragic events of Friday morning. Michael’s departure has deeply shocked and saddened all that knew him, but his vivid memory will live on strongly among all of us. Let Michael be a shining and graceful example to all, of purity of heart and depth of character, so that we can all ensure that his spirit lives on through our own thoughts and actions. Our sincere thoughts and prayers are with his family at this most difficult time. May God rest his soul.
